The man who would come to be known as Zosimos was born Ibrihim al-Sabir under the shadow of the Holy Hill, Arafat. His father was a renowned philosopher and scholar, and his mother, a mathematician. They instilled in him a love for learning from an early age. Raised in a family where intellectualism was revered above all else, Ibrihim showed promise as a child prodigy. By the time he was ten, she was already reading advanced texts in physics, mathematics, and engineering. Soon after his eleventh birthday however, a new skill showed itself and soon dominated all his focus: magic.

His passion for science was rooted in the fusion of the old and new — an admiration for the groundbreaking discoveries of figures like Ibn al-Haytham and the ancient alchemist Zosimos of Panopolis. He, however, sought to take that legacy further. He was drawn to the mysterious intersection of science and spirituality — where the realms of the physical and metaphysical collided. It was here that his ambition flourished.

He continued on that path until early adulthood, focusing on the scientific aspects of alchemical magic. He was considered a rising star in his field, as both magician and scholar. He was in his mid 20’s and loving his life, a greatly enriching job in the Caliphate and a marriage on the horizon. Behind the curtain, things were not as they appeared. The stresses of his life of constant expectations of perfection had gotten to him. He had begun consorting with spirits, the djinn of fire, and even made a deal with one for further knowledge and assistance.

The turning point came after a personal breakthrough, learning techniques to manipulate the human mind. The results were astounding as he was suddenly able to easily move past all the fools and roadblocks on his research. Progress was not to last. Whether bad luck or divine punishment, his fiancée discovered him consorting with the Djinn and she startled him, allowing the djinn to overpowered the bindings placed on it, and burn the building down, his research and fiancée inside. Soon after, during the investigation, his other crimes came to light and called into question all his prior accomplishments. The public backlash was swift and unforgiving. Religious leaders condemned him as a Devil worshiper and heretic, accusing him of tampering with the soul and distorting the divine order of creation. His work was seen as an affront to Allah, and the government, fearing that their own secrets could be let out, marked Ibrihim for death.

He was only able to escape due to a combination of an abundance of alchemical preparations, stored physical wealth, and continued "abuse" of his other magical powers, including the ability to shift his magical signature. Through that combination he was able to secure transportation out of the country, much of it disguised as a woman in a burka using control spells to keep male "guardians" at hand.

Poor and paranoid, slowly adjusting to his new lot life, he eventually wound his way to Seattle and with the aid of Sadaqa, another Islamic Alchemist and Caliphate expatriate. She helped him put together a new identity and introduced him to the Seattle shadowcommunity. Even with his new connections, he's always looking over his shoulder for the day the Devil comes calling.
