Emily Rodney was born in a small town outside Wilmington, DE: Red Lion. She was a bright and outgoing child; both a cheerleader (though not head cheerleader) and member of the chess team. Despite her cred in both the athletic community and the geek community, throughout high school she dated an underachiever, John Smith. After they graduated from the University of Delaware, where she studied business economics, and he graduated from the FBI Academy, they married.
While he went to work for the Bureau, she found up a job in sales financing with Bristol Optics, an industrial electronics subsidiary of Novatech. Their marriage lead to two children — Caesar[1] and Anne[2] — but his frequent undercover absences and her climb up the corporate ladder left them little time for each other.
When her husband fell out of favor during Universal Brotherhood situation and was shipped off to the middle of nowhere, Emily and her children remained in Maryland. The distance replaced the frequent absences due to his undercover work, and combined with her career trajectory lead her to realize they had been effectively separated for years.
In 2057, she earned a promotion that would take her to Seattle; she filed for divorce and took the offer. A few months after arriving she met David Bunker, at a Novatech corporate function unveiling a new Walker Aerodesign product — he was the test pilot and leading engineer, and nearly 20 years her junior. They quickly fell into a relationship, and were married in the summer of 2059.
Unknown to her ex-husband, she was in the Arcology for a family Christmas dinner with her new husband and his family, including her new sister-in-law, Geneviève Bunker. David was running late due to a monorail stoppage, and was outside the arcology. Her children, however, were both present and are currently unaccounted for.
Smith Children
Caesar, Age 11
Named after a distant ancestor on his mother's side, Caesar is an above average student in terms of intelligence. He does suffer from poor language skills development which has made him a bit of an outcast socially. He also has poor motor skills, but is undergoing VR therapy to rectify the condition. He has mother's dark eyes and dark hair, with curls neither of his parents possess.
Anne, Age 8
Though Caesar's intelligence makes him creative, Anne takes both to another level, often making choices and decisions that deliberately run counter to her peers and show decision making well above her age group. She's a very self-possessed child, seemingly unaffected by her family's troubles. She has the same blonde hair her father grew up with, which means it's likely to darken as she grows older, but her mother's dark eyes.
