It was not until he got into high school (William Penn High School or Penn, home of the Penn Colonials), that he discovered a passion for acting. This passion followed him into college at University of Delaware (The Fightin Blue Hens), where his performances were becoming more and more intense until he began to develop adept abilities that allowed him to adjust his voice, mannerism, and even some of his features.

In his senior year, John was approached by the FBI and appealing to his sense of patriotism got him join the bureau. It was under FBI tutelage that he managed to develop his full suite of abilities. In the process he married his high school sweetheart, Emily Rodney. They eventually had two children, Caesar and Anne.
In his senior year, John was recruited by the FBI with an appealing to his sense of patriotism and putting his special talents to work protecting people. Under FBI tutelage he developed his suite of abilities, turning him into a superlative undercover agent. During his time at Quantico, he also married his high school sweetheart, Emily Rodney. They eventually had two children: Caesar and Anne. After graduation, he worked out of the DeeCee field office, albeit mostly on paper. His adept abilities made him quite appealing to a number of different operations.


He worked undercover for the G-men on several cases. He was assigned to infiltrate the Universal Brotherhood. Unfortunately while the undercover, his partner was infected by a bug spirit. About to be taken down by infected partner, John was forced to kill his partner in self-defense. Though eventually cleared for any wrong-doing (largely because of lack of evidence and only relying on John’s testimony and record), John lost favor with the FBI.  John was transferred out to Winnipeg, Mantioba.   
A major turning point in his career was being tapped to infiltrate the {{srw|Universal Brotherhood}} in 2054. During the investigation, his partner was invested with an insect spirit. When he discovered the subterfuge, he was forced to defend himself and killed his partner. Though eventually declared a good shoot, John fell out of favor with the DeeCee field office and he was reassigned to Winnipeg, Manitoba.   


Emily and his children remained initially remained in Delaware as her company did not have any offices in the remains of Manitoba.  Her skills and natural leadership abilities began to show and she quickly rose up the ranks. The distance plus divergent career paths of John and Emily, finally forced Emily to admit to they had effectively separated. With divorce a likely scenario and a promotion that required a move, Emily did not even consult John on her move to Seattle.
Emily and his children remained initially remained in Maryland, as her company did not have any offices in that part of the UCAS. The distance replaced the frequent absences due to his undercover work, and combined with her career trajectory lead her to realize they had been effectively separated for years. When she earned a promotion that would take her to Seattle, she filed for divorce and took the offer.


Eventually becoming disillusioned with exile to Mantioba, John began moonlighting as a shadowrunner. As his shadowrunning career take off, John left the FBI and began to travel around North America where better jobs could be found. Finding himself taking a job in December in Seattle, John under the alias Garbo, was ready for one more run before attempting to meet his family for Christmas.
