The team puts their disguise plans into action, exploring the Banded-occupied regions of the SCIRE. Fräulein plays the role of a White, with Nian, Siri, Izzie, and Liam as her four-man security detail. Shirayuri and Garbo take the role of Greens.

Green Eyed Monster

As they're doing their final preparations, the group discovers that Shirayuri has an exceptionally adverse reaction to the blue-toned eyedrops. They try bottles from two different batches, but it doesn't matter — she won't be able to pretend to be a Blue. She switches roles with Liam, pretending to be a Green instead of a Blue.
As they make their way through the populated areas, including a seemingly functional shopping mall, they're astounded by how normal things seem. The Banded look like people going about their lives albeit not as crowded as Izzie and Shirayuri expect. They see Greens both all service positions and just walking around normally, like people off-shift or on break.
The teenage Whites are in singletons or small groups, occasionally accompanied by an adult Green. Younger Whites always seem to have a four-man Blue security detail, which seems to earn them some deference from the others — the group benefits by having a similar grouping, a young White plus a Green entourage and Blue security.
They take note of the fact that every person they see with an exposed arm has one or more black bands tattooed on it.
They find that the elevators work normally for them, presumably due to the harvested and jury rigged Blue commlinks.

On Level 260, they visit the hospital. Unlike the lower floors, which were still clearly designed like the interior of a megastructure, this executive hospital is built inside a two-floor atrium-like space, with small trees, grass, and footpaths between individual buildings. It strikes them as a normal-seeming suburban hospital, almost disturbingly so.
They have no problem walking right in — as with the higher levels, a White with Blue escorts seems to be allowed wherever they feel like going without any questions.
Garbo and the twins experience increased discomfort from the eyedrops, so they hide out in an exam room to flush and rest their eyes for a bit. Meanwhile the others (Fräulein, Shirayuri, Liam, and Izanami) go looking for a computer terminal to do some information gathering. They find security incredibly lax, no security badges or passcodes, almost as if anybody who's here is supposed to be here and expected to do the right thing.
Shirayuri and Izanami, the closest thing the group has to matrix specialists, get answers to some questions out of the hospital's computers. More detailed information is unavailable, and they lack the skills to dig deeper.
- How fast is the conversion process for the population?
As of February 16, 2060 (60 days since the SCIRE was isolated from the outside world began), approximately 20,000 people have been converted. Relatively few additional conversions are taking place on a daily basis.
- What are the parameters of who gets converted and who does not?
- Whites are exclusively children and young adults, under the age of 20. They all demonstrate technical aptitude. None are Awakened.
- Greens are all adults with technical or administrative skills.
- Blues are all adults with security or combat skills.
- What is the significance of the tattooed black bands?
The bands represent the person's rank with in the hierarchy. For greens and blues, it's simple rank-based authority — supervisors have more bands than underlings. For whites, it represents the number of encounters they have had with the Deep Resonance, something they can seek out by choice.
They also conduct a records search for their brother and mother respectively. MUSUME Takeru is listed as a White Banded, Rank 2 and IGARASHI Airi is Blue Banded, Rank 5.

After collecting what information they can, the group retreats back up a to one of the mall levels. Garbo recommends a Karaoke place for rest and refreshments, then finding an unoccupied business to spend the night, something that nobody in a locked-down arcology will need, like a travel agent.

Deciding that there's no plausible way their disguises will hold up against the kinds of security the Director is likely to have, the group decides to load for bear and go without. They also decide to travel in the elevator shafts, where a near collision with an elevator car costs Fräulein's her overcoat and nearly costs Nian her life.
They exit near the outer perimeter of the SCIRE, having climbed down more distance than they expected. They exit into a garden area, about 50 m (160 ft) from the outer walls. They immediately realize this level is significantly taller than the others, with the ceiling 10 m (33 ft) above them covered in a holographic recreation of the sky outside the arcology. Fräulein's natural thermographic vision sees right through the illusion.
They leave the girls at the elevator shaft, hiding among the plants, then head towards the middle of the floor.

The garden gives way to small traditional Japanese village, or at least the facade of one. The exterior of the buildings are designed in that traditional style, but they have modern amenities like lighting, plumbing, and so on. Some of them are residences, while others are personal versions of many of the other sections of the arcology — a theatre, a pool, a medical clinic, a machine shop, a parking garage for golf carts, and so on.
The residences appear to be occupied, confirmed via motion sensor and endoscope, though at the time of night the 'runners are
The door creaks as we go through, no one seems to notice though or come check. One of the nearby houses we use motion detector to find that there is one person inside sleeping. Using the endoscope, there is a man in pajamas sleeping inside. There is inside one building golf carts to get around. There is guards, blue eyed guarding the central manor.
The Manor seems to be a fully secured facility, cameras, maybe motion sensors and other modern defenses. Front and back Doors, two guards each, and one on patrol.
The building is wrapped in a Force 8 Ward.

Green King's Concubine

Group will be going in through a window, probably on second story.
Fräulein using laser microphone finds windows, lots of windows, no sounds inside. We are going to use rope, Shirayuri jumping over with it to tie it on one end, and Liam on other so Liam and Garbo and climb over. They both make it, with some challenge. Inside a room on 3rd floor, there is a woman, well a doll, on a bed. It is warm, like a person.
Assensing: Appears to be healthy, Asleep, Mundane, 4.58 Essence, Beta Ware in head and chest. No breathing, no heart, no astral signatures, no diseases or maladies.
Top floor was a gaming room and bar.
On third floor again we end up going into her room, Shirayuri and Liam end up waking her up. She is strangely calm, and notes that Ushida also has green eyes. The tube handles all her bodily functions. After he got converted he went more nuts (Neurotic?). He was converted prior to the shutdown. Johanna is some sort of Germanic or Nordic. There is a plan, because he is unhappy with the speed of progress. She has not seen him in 9 days, he visits when he needs stress release. She is a Renraku Citizen, there is definitely some corporate loyalty thing going on here along with Stockholm syndrome like things. Johanna was in human resources. He has 7 Bands on his arm. She has heard of Deep Resonance before, but no idea what it means and he, well she does not want to say he was annoyed, but there was something he was missing out on. She has from when she studying psychology she has a thing that lets her record her dreams.
