The team identifies movement in the stack of bodies, but also sees a Work Spider nearby. It appears to be in standby mode, but they're not one-hundred percent certain. Shirayuri sneaks up to check on the movement, which triggers the drones to attack.

}}Mr. Muraro rejoins the group to play overwatch along with Liam and Loki as they access the landing bay. Shirayuri scouts ahead, spotting some sort of centipede drones of a make and model she has never seen before.

If they notice the group, they don't react. They appear to be depositing something on the door, lumpy and organic-looking. Loki casts ignite on one of the things that the centipede is laying, it goes up in flames and its neighbors start making a buzzing noise.

Shirayuri moves in to check out the area, but is greeted by a trio of Dervishes. She destroys one immediately, the falls back to cover. She gets the drop on a second one as it comes around that cover, while the rest of the team engages the third. They put some damage on it with spells and firearms, but Shiriyuri scores the third kill as well.

Meanwhile, the centipedes continue to do their work, ignoring the battle around them.

While being treated, Soma is able to provide some more information. They control pod was attacked by a group of four in Renraku company outfits. Astral investigation shows both parents have the expected light headware and their emotional state checks out — the mother is nervous, afraid, and stressed, but the father seems less concerned.

In a second unit, she finds a kid that is complaining about a throbbing headache. He assenses as very ill, and has headware. Placement suggests it's a datajack, but he's way too young. His parents are more concerned and more nervous than the mother across the hall. They're going back and forth the quarantine, the need for their son to have a datajack, and their faith in the corporation's guidance.
fraulein reports back her findings, but as they are talking Shirayuri hears someone and hushes the group. She sneaks up to check, and Fräulein ceases manifesting. Shirayuri gets the drop on two Renraku nurses, knocking them both out.

Liam doesn't want to talk to them for fear of revealing too much information, but Garbo blindfolds them and uses a different voice. Shirayuri sets up a jammer, just incase they have any implanted transmitters. They take a few minutes to figure out questions before they begin. They only get through half of them before an elevator arrives, despite the floor having no power.

Renraku Security come out the elevator tazers drawn, ordering them to come out into the hall and surrender. Liam declines to obey, informing the others they have company. The team spools up — drugs, adept powers, spells, and so-on — to fight back.

The fight initially goes against the Renraku officers, even though they quickly switch from tazers to submachine guns. It turns back in their favor when they deploy gas grenades; the team doesn't have enough gas protection to go around.

Liam tries to hold them off with suppressive fire, and is shocked when they charge directly into it. They try to dogpile him, but he and Shirayuri thin their numbers while the others escape. fraulein holds back their reinforcements with repeated lightning balls while they fall back.

The security forces push them back all the way to 27, where they suddenly stop pressing and let the team go. Unfortunately, Soma is killed in a cross fire and Loki, who went invisible early in the engagement, somehow got lost along the way.

The SCIRE's stairwells are integrated into the design of all superlifts starting at Level 16‌ and ending at Level 300‌. The levels within the plinth are arranged differently, to accommodate the loadbearing needs of the basements and the structure as a whole, while the upper most levels were not constructed as superlifts in the first place.

The inner sections of each level (the spaces that exist on all floors of the arcology) follow one of two floor plans, known as "A" or "B", or both arrangements combined (often unofficially called "C" for cross-over). Within each superblock, the two level types are stacked in specific order, resulting in the pattern shown (using Level 16‌ through Level 30‌ as an example).

Instead, they have Shirayuri bypass the seal and go up first — she'll wear what they have for protection (primarily a gas mask) and hope her integrated biomonitor doesn't go off. Fräulein will accompany her on the astral, with Liam remaining in the stairwell. Loki casts invisibility on both of them, then tasks an air spirit to bring anybody who looses consciousness back to him, Garbo and the others, who will hide out in an office cluster on Level 30‌

Shirayuri has a little trouble opening the cross-shaft hatch, they're a tougher lock than the regular residential doors. There's no immediate signal from her biomonitor, but she does notice the glow of another hatch many floors above her.

Fräulein zips up there astrally to investigate. The door is surrounded by the same things the centipede drones were deploying on the doors in the VTOL bay. When she gets close, they start squealing in a similar way the others did when Loki incinerated one. She falls back, and they go silent.

After a few more minutes of waiting for Shirayuri's biomonitor to react, which it doesn't, her and Liam pop the elevator shaft. They don't see or hear anybody from their vantage point, so slip out to look around the residential floor. Every unit they find is showing the same biohazard seal notice the stairway hatches were showing.

Fräulein projects into a few of the units. In the first, she finds a boy playing video games while his sister complains about him monopolizing the trideo. The mother is in the kitchen fixing a meal. The father is in the bedroom, working from home.

Fräulein reports back her findings, but as they are talking Shirayuri hears someone and hushes the group. She sneaks up to check, and Fräulein ceases manifesting. Shirayuri gets the drop on two Renraku nurses, knocking them both out.

They were carrying a tablet with instructions to bring the boy and girl Fräulein saw earlier up to Level 40‌ for surgery. They realize that between the two uniforms, Kazuki being a child, and Fräulein's stature, they might be able to infiltrate the hospital and find out more.

On their way up to Level 40‌, the conditions are similar to what they saw on Level 31‌ — all the doors have quarantine seals (though the stairways are not sealed). They pass multiple pairs of nurses escorting children, including a girl that can't be more than seven with her head wrapped in bandages. Fräulein notices that Kazuki does not seem surprised, he's either a good actor or legitimately unsurprised.

When they approach the hospital entrance, Shirayuri recognizes her own cybersurgeon, Dr. Vidhava. She's sporting green eyes and four extra cybernetic arms sprouting from her back, something Fräulein knows to be impossible (the human mind can't handle extra limbs like that). She is also in the company of a Red Samurai. Where you see one Red Samurai, there are almost certainly four more, so they decide to abandon the hospital and move on.

With the nurse disgiuses, it's a simple matter for the team to get up to Level 48‌ where Mrs. Muraro lives. Fräulein slips in side to check on her, and finds her unconscious and dying — she's suffering from heart failure.

Liam punches his way into the room, and they do what they can to help, but it isn't enough. She passes away, with the medkit telling them that she's has a heart condition and a drug contraindicated for those with heart issues in her bloodstream.

Fräulein does an astral sweep of other parts of the level. She finds multiple units with dead bodies in them — some are singles, some are couples, but all of them are in the 60-plus age bracket.

The team quickly heads back to Level 30‌.

Liam, with Saffron's help, is able to explain the situation to Mr. Muraro. He is obviously distraught. Saffron takes him out to the lobby of the office unit they're using.

The shadowrunners gather together to decide what to do next. They realize that the two nurses could be a source of information. Fräulein assenses them, immediately discovering that they have a startling amount of cyberware for nurses — extensive headware and even some bodyware.

We Regret to Interrogate You

 • What is happening here? — I'm pretty sure I got hit in the head. I might have a concussion. Why can't I see?
 • Why are they installing datajacks into kids? — They were ordered by Dr. Vidhava; it has something to do with diagnosing and treating the disease that's caused the quarantine.
 • Do they believe the biohazard is real? — Of course, why wouldn't it be? (Garbo doesn't trust this answer)
 • Who is behind this? — We don't know, and it doesn't matter. Treating the population is our job. (Garbo doesn't trust this answer)
 • Do they know what happened to the people on the lower levels? — I don't know what you're talking about? We've been quite busy up here, keeping things contained and trying to treat them.

There were additional questions planned, but they didn't get answers before they were attacked.

 • What else is happening beyond those lockdown levels?
 • Are the Red Samurai collaborating with the drones?
 • How many Red Samurai are in the quarantine zone?
 • Do they know anything about Doctor Vidhava?
 • Do they know about the people who came in through the VTOL hangers?

Fräulein holds back their reinforcements with repeated lightning balls while they fall back.

The security forces push them back all the way to Level 27‌, where they suddenly stop pressing and let the team go. Unfortunately, Soma is killed in a cross fire and Loki, who went invisible early in the engagement, somehow got lost along the way.
