WhenSaturday, December 27, 2059 (Day 9)
WhereFerrarius Pharmacy, SCIRE, Level 1‌

With the discovery that Genie suffers from bipolar disorder and she's run out of medication, a small group of survivors heads down to the mall level to secure more. They encounter another group of survivors, looting the pharmacy. Mr. Gold tries the diplomatic approach, but the looters have other ideas.

Unfortunately for them, they discuss those plans a little too loudly — the survivors overhear their leader, a woman, tell another member of her team "that man is wearing a nice suit, he's gotta have some good stuff. Take the long gun, go around, and plug him." They have no chance against a group that outnumbers them nearly two to one and outguns them almost three to one.

In the end, the leader is dead, her husband is distraught with grief, and the third (the one with the rifle) surrenders and joins the survivors.

WhereSCIRE, Level 24‌

Late in the evening they've returned from their expedition to the mall, Kazuki finds Aoi and Arthur on watch. He first asks Aoi to ask Mr. Gold to give them some privacy (he's a Fixer, and therefor shadowrunner-adjacent), he then asks if they scanned Anise for bugs. Aoi gets Tosh to do a sweep, and finds that Anise is broadcasting. When confronted, she explains that her cyberware can't be turned wireless-off: it's a cybersuite.

They go back and forth for a bit, trying to figure out various plans. The initial idea is to just run a jammer (which they do immediately, at least for temporary protection), but it would be a consistent drain on their limited power supplies. They eventually settle on just bricking her implants, but she objects as that includes her eyes and ears, which would render her blind and deaf. She's willing to leave, to keep the rest of them safe, but Tosh comes up with less ultimately fatal and more long-term idea — with a little ingenuity, they can set up one of the bathrooms with Faraday shielding.

WhereAtrium, SCIRE, Level 31‌

After locating what they need to build Anise's Faraday room from a grocery store on Level 33‌ — aluminum foil, plastic wrap, and tape — the group makes their way back home. On the ground floor of the atrium, they encounter a group of hellhounds. Tosh and Mukami detect the burning smell and alert the others. Muraro-san is injured by their attacks, but Aoi is able to treat his burns.

Heading back towards their base, the group is forced to detour by a Blue patrol. Their new course leads them past a sector cleared of all interior partitions and regular furniture. Instead, it's full of monowire-topped fences, surrounding groups of fifty to sixty patients on steel gurneys with IV drips. Instead of being strapped down, they're fastened at ankle and wrist with slug-looking shapes that Mr. Muraro recognizes as calcified versions of the creatures the centipede drones were deploying in the VIP VTOL hangers. When the creatures start making the same squealing noise Fräulein and Shirayuri experienced, they realize it's probably reacting to Mukami and back off.

Once she has a place to hide, the others sneak back over and attempt to make entry. While Mr. Gold and Tosh work on the lock, Anise and Aoi keep an eye out. They realize that every person they can see has a datajack installed, some of them recently, and the monowire is mounted leaning inward — it's meant to keep people in, not out.

Unfortunately, Mr. Gold and Tosh have trouble with the lock, and aren't able to breach it before a group of guards start heading their direction. They fall back around the nearest corner and wait to see what happens. The guards don't raise any sort of alarm, remarking that this is not the first time somebody has attempted to break in, and they'll have to call a maintainance crew to fix it.

The group decides discretion is the better part of valor, and they'll have something to report to the shadowrunners the next time they make contact. They skirt the area and return home.
